The Barrocal the area also known as the "biera-serra” is the transitional area of land between the coast and the uplands and is a landscape of gentle undulation, where olive, almond, carob, fig and citrus are grown and you will discover charming towns and villages such as Sao Bras de Alportel, Loule, Castro Marim, Querença, Salir, Alte and Silves. The area is particular beautiful in Spring starting with the almond blossom and then when an abundance of wild flowers bring a mass of colour to the area. Activities encouraging creative experiences in this area have emerged in recent years such as the Loule Criativo Project which offers training workshops in traditional crafts. An ideal way for both residents of the area and tourists to immerse themselves in traditions of the region. Another excellent way to discover the culture and history of this region is through well presented tours and workshops by checking out what is available through Algarve Rotas.
