If you're relocating to the Algarve and searching for an ideal place to settle, we highly suggest visiting the lively town of São Brás de Alportel.
Located just 25 minutes from Faro International Airport and our stunning coast, São Brás de Alportel sits at the edge of the picturesque Serra do Caldeirão mountain range. It is famously recognised as a flat town in the Algarve, making it perfect for those who prefer to navigate daily life on foot.
The town boasts a variety of excellent restaurants and cafes, a bustling municipal market, a fantastic selection of shops, several supermarkets, and a museum that offers numerous classes and clubs. We suggest becoming a Friend of the Museum to stay informed about upcoming events and classes. The town is equipped with both an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor lido, tennis and paddle courts, as well as quality medical services.
The Camara (council) of Sao Bras de Alportel takes great pride in their town, which you'll notice when you visit and explore: Relax in our charming square at one of the cafes, soak in the Algarvian lifestyle, and watch the world pass by. As you wander around, you'll see that the streets and pavements are always well-maintained, with beautiful tree plantings throughout the town, and enjoy the impeccably kept green spaces.
Throughout the year, numerous festivals and local fairs occur, with one of the most famous being the Festa das Torchas (Festival of Flower Torches) on Easter Sunday. This festival is one of the most celebrated events in São Brás de Alportel and serves as a lively celebration of the Christian belief in the resurrection, attracting hundreds of spectators each year from across Portugal and beyond. This day holds sacred significance for all residents and is a feast where religious and pagan beliefs blend harmoniously. The atmosphere is filled with joy and celebration: the air is scented with country flowers, lavender, rosemary, and the country flowers of the ornately decorated torches carried by the town's men during the Procession of Flower Torches. Balconies along the procession route are also adorned. It is truly a wonderful event, regardless of one's religious beliefs.
If you enjoy shopping for fresh, locally grown produce and fish delivered daily from the Ria Formosa, make sure to visit the Municipal Covered Market.
The atmosphere on a Saturday is delightful. Near the main market, you'll discover a great bakery, butchers, artisan vendors, and numerous small shops providing essentials for daily life. You'll find all the shops you need throughout the town, so you'll never have to go far.
